Accessory makers hop on the Zune bandwagon
Mike
With Zune officially launching in less than a week, an entire network of third-party suppliers are pushing accessories for the player to make a quick buck.
A survey conducted by ABI Research group shows that 28% were interested in buying a new mp3 player in the next year and more than 50% of those who already own other digital media players including iPod would consider buying Zune.
Over the years many manufacturers have made a killing off iPod accessory sales. And the same holds true for Zune. An estimated of 500,000 Zune players will be sold this holiday season as per ABI Research. It’s speculated that accessories alone could generate around $60 million in sales early on.
Keeping this in mind manufacturers have already launched an array of products for Zune. Belkin has already introduced products ranging from cases, armbands to FM transmitter for Zune (List of Zune accessories from Belkin can be found here). Other companies like monster came out with TVLink which connects your Zune player to any TV; MusicShare Y-Splitter connects two sets of headphones to Zune and more.
Even Speck products, famous for making protection cases for mobile devices came out with cool looking but tough cases for Zune. The cases I can think of right now are Active Sport Armband, Canvas Sport, rubberized skin case called ToughSkin for rugged protection and hand crafted executive brown leather case. (Details and features of Speck products can be found here)
So, right now over 5 manufacturers and 20 stock keeping units (SKU) are officially listing products for launch. I’ll try to cover other accessories individually if possible.
