Can’t connect to zune error 10065 resolved
Mike
Recently lot of people including me had issues with zune software. I was not able to login to the zune marketplace; every time I tried to connect it threw up an error saying “Can’t connect to Zune. Please try again later. Error Code: 10065″.
Error 10065, 87, 10113 or 10114 is caused by a bad indiv state on your machine. It means the DRM license on your machine is corrupt and it needs to be repaired.
Anyway few solutions were offered but none worked except one. So I’ll post the solution here and see if it works for you guys. Follow the simple steps below.
- Close out all open programs.
- Open the browser and enter the URL: http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite/en/indivit.asp
- The above web address will take you to security components upgrade page.
- If the Upgrade button is already grayed out, you either need to install Activex control or select “Run the ActiveX Control” from the information bar at the top of the screen. (OR)
- Go to c:\Windows\Documents and Settings\All Users and rename the DRM folder. If you cannot view the folder then go into the folder view settings and make sure “hide protected operating system files” is not checked, and that “show hidden files and folders” is selected.
- Now go back to that page again and click the Upgrade button. Once the upgrade is complete, the Upgrade Complete button will appear but will be grayed out. You should also see “The security components have been upgraded successfully”.
- After this restart or reboot your computer.
After rebooting open your zune software and try logging in. You should be able to sign in now. Try this and if it did work for you too then please let me know.

Just recently purchase my Zune (Brown). Installed Software and unfortunately, I got the dreaded code 10065. After an evening and the following morning of whose problem it is from Zune - Gateway & Microsoft, your instructions saved me the hassle of returning my Zune.
My Code 10065 specifically means that your program cannot get an internet connection to initiate the file transfer. I had to deal with the (Grayed out upgrade button) from this URL: http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite/en/indivit.asp.
I had to (but some may not need to go through all of these steps):
1. Allow full access for Active X
2. Turn off ALL Security Software (Firewall & Virus)
3. Go to msconfig turn off all auto load programs
4. Then use the excellent fix provided from your site.
5. Link to Microsoft’s website to get DRM upgrade to repair the corrupted license.
6. Restored all my settings and I get to keep my Zune.
Zune owners, please be careful when updating your internet browsers and media players this will cause issues with the DRM license. (Affecting more than your Zune Market Place.) Thank so much, I really like this product despite some of the negative press and reviews. Let us hope someone at Microsoft is making of list of upgrade improvements. Until then I will check this website first for my Zune solutions.
Thanks Mike.

I received the 10065 error code, I followed the instructions above but after I renamed the DRM file I go to update and the button is still grayed out and when I go back and check the DRM file another one has been created. So I have the DRMbackup (that I renamed) and then a new one just DRM. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I like the Zune but this software problem is driving me crazy.

Mike,
I had the same problem, and I found I had to enable activeX Control. That took away the error, but I can’t purchase, play or burn music. I get an error saying…Zune Software Encounted a roble while playing the file. Go to help.
Help don’t help. I’m at a loss with this software. Been trying to get this to work since Dec!
But thanks for the help with error 10065.

skeet, I am glad I could help with the 10065 error. But as far as the ZM error goes I am afraid I have no idea about the problem, the only thing you can do is call the tech support.

Dude.. This freakin’ sucks, mine wont update either. I think im about to break something in frustration because if I cant update then I cant sync, and if I cant sync I cant up anything on or take anything off. IM stuck, someone.. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! save me t_t
Okay, I connect my Zune, it auto sync’s then the firmware update thing comes up. Then I have to click next. Wont let me click outside that window. Then the thing says “UPDATING” but then a window quickly pops up saying “It is not possible to change sync settings at this time. Try again later.” And It makes you click close then says the update failed.
Anything at all would be awesome guys
thanks~

I updated my OLD AS HELL desktop computer with MS service pack 2 and then poped the zune CD in. Installed that, put the zune in the front universal serial bus and it updated like that, fist time
IM HAPPY AGAIN! But that goes to show you. Even a crappy computer can do it. My desktop is a Dell Dimension 2400 Intel, Celeron “GOD I HATE YOU CELERON!!” 768 ram. yeah.. I put in a 512 but that was the only thing I had done to it. I bought the thing new back when they were decent in like 2000 and never ever ran windows updates. I ran them for the first time today. Got 100 something critical updates needed so I took a whole hour or so updating that trash and wallah! Firmware update complete! I still dont know why my laptop wouldn’t do the update though, its a new Vaio but it is still running XP, like my desktop. I only bought the thing like 6 months ago. Whatever. IT WORKS!! WOO!!!

Hey guys…..
I had the same problem as everyone else, including 2 hours on the phone with Microsoft.
Here is what I found. The Symantec Desktop Firewall was bloking the RTSP protocol at port 554. I uninstalled the the firewall agent, re-installed the Zune Marketplace and then re-installed the firewall.
ISSUE RESOLVED. I’M DOWNLOAD’N LIKE A MAD MAN!!!!!

Hello, I am getting the greyed out button thing too.
I have all of my security settings for IE as low as possible, and my firewall is turned off. When I visit the page, the button is greyed out, and the page loads with errors. Specifically “A problem has occured in the DRM component. Contact Product support for this application.”
Any advice? This is ridiculous.

I had to visit this site as well…. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929642/en-us …. only becauseI’m not as intelligent as some other people. BUT I was able to get it fixed!!! This site led me to one another person had mentioned.
Had it not been for this site, I wouldn’t have been able to enjoy my Zune!!
